Cricket has been played in Springfontein since the turn of the previous century. In 1998 Blackie de Swardt decided to build a cricket field at Prior Grange.

The Anglo Boer War Museum at Prior Grange contains photographs, memorabilia and information concerning the Boer War.

Springfontein has a rich Anglo Boer War History. The Blockhouse at Prior Grange was restored on the site of an original Anglo Boer War blockhouse.

No visit to Prior Grange is complete without a visit to The Loft. It houses a unique collection of books and memorabilia; making it ideal for pre-dinner drinks.

About Us

Discover old-fashioned hospitality on the historical working farm Prior Grange, situated near Springfontein in the Southern Free State.

Blackie, Sheryl and their son Stephen de Swardt invite you to stay over for a night and experience their heritage and hospitality on their beautiful Karoo Farm.

The farm, Prior Grange has been in the family since 1854.

It is a working Merino sheep farm. The guest house was established in 1995 by Blackie and Sheryl de Swardt. Their son Stephen joined them in 2011.

Guests staying at Prior Grange are accommodated in five delightful cottages situated in the garden.
